The Beacon C of E
VA Primary School

I first had the pleasure of working with the Beacon Primary school just over two years ago when I accepted the role of teaching assistant, which initially I thought would work hand in hand with my evening dance classes.

This soon developed into a dance teacher role within the school where I am lucky enough to work with children from reception right up to class 6.

It is always amazing to see the progress from lesson to lesson and how each child has grown in confidence as well as developing a love and appreciation for dance. Each term the children learn a new style of dance linked into their curriculum which reinforces what they have learnt in the classroom and develops a deeper level of understanding.

As dance is a performance art performance opportunities are very important whether that be our annual summer show down the Pavilion or taking part in dance days and festivals.

“Having Katie teach dance in school is brilliant. She delivers lessons that are a fantastic and fun approach to the curriculum. It’s great to see the children, even the shy ones, really joining in and developing their movement and performance skills.”

Amanda Pow, PE co-ordinator, The Beacon CE Primary School.

“I like dancing to the different types of music. It’s fabulaous dancing news moves with my friends.”
